2 Ways Doctors Can Get More Patients

How can a doctor get more patients using the internet?

We all want more leads coming in right? The best way to do that online is by getting visitors to your own website. But getting visitors is just part of it. Anybody that has had a website for a while knows that it takes more than a visitor to get a lead. It takes an effective website to get your phone ringing.

Not a flashy doctors' website, not a busy website, not a pretty website, an effective website. Often an effective website is not necessarily a pretty website, or a flashy website, or a busy website.

1. Utilize a Call to Action

An important component of a website is having a call to action on your homepage asking your visitors to call or email you. People need to be told what to do, tell them explicitly something like: Call Today For Your Free Analysis!


A dentist may put something like: Free Teeth Whitening, Call today!

An effective way to implement this is to have a lead capture form on your website. That is a form that asks for a persons contact information and the nature of their request. For most effectiveness, you will want to put this on the home page, to the right, above the fold (meaning before you have to scroll).

Offer something in exchange for their information. A free report. A free inspection. Free teeth whitening. Free consultation. A free analysis. Something of value without cutting into your margins too much.

Once you have your website up, you will want to begin promoting it. This is often called SEO or search engine optimization. For a small business, such as a doctor or physican group, search engine optimization is extremely important.

It is how a small business owner will be found online! The first thing I recommend when promoting your website is to start with your local citations such as Google My Business. This is a local listing that you can claim and optimize. It is basically a one page webpage that Google gives local companies.

2. How does Google My Business for Doctors Work?

local_search_for_doctorsLet's say someone was went to Google and typed in 'plastic surgeon Utah'. They are specifically looking for a plastic surgeon, this typically means they have money and want to give it to a somebody that can help them solve their problem.

Ideally, you would like your Google My Business listing to show up on the first page. If it doesn't, then the chances of you getting a call from that person are slim to none. Google My Business listings nearly always appear when searching for a local business or service for doctors, dentists, psychologists, etc.

On your Google My Business listing and other online listings your customers can leave reviews.

Follow up with patients you've done work for in the past and ask them to leave a review. It can be as simple as a status update on your Facebook. You can send a follow up postcard, you can send a follow up email. (collect your clients email addresses if you are not doing it now!)

It's a great way to keep in touch and keep on top of your clients mind when they need your service. The best thing about reviews is almost everyone looks at reviews before purchasing something and if they can see the excellent work you've done, the more likely they are to give you a call or purchase your service.
